Abstract

A series of fluoride content varied P2O5 –CdO –PbF2 –CaF2 - Dy2O3 glasses were prepared by using the melt quenching technique. Glass ceramics were obtained via heat treatment. Different techniques like powder X-raydiffraction, TEM, Optical absorption and photoluminescence were used to characterise the prepared glasses/glass- ceramics. These glasses have shown strong absorption bands in the near-infrared (NIR) region along with feeblebands in the high-energy region. Glass ceramics exhibit more White light emission intensity than glasses, whichattributes the effect of the presence of nanocrystals. CIE coordinates placement in very near to pure white light recommends these glasses/glass ceramics as potential in lighting applications.
