PRANA-BASED INTERVENTION IS ASSOCIATED WITH INCREASED ELECTRICAL CONDUCTIVITY OF DISTILLED WATER: AN EXPLORATORY STUDY WITH IN INDIAN KNOWLEDGE SYSTEMS

Abstract

In traditional Indian knowledge systems, Prana is described as a vital life force believed to regulate living systemsand influence natural elements. Classical Indian philosophical and healing traditions, including the Veda, Upanishad, Yoga and Ayurveda, describe subtle interactions between consciousness, energy, and matter. However, experimental validation of such concepts using modern analytical methods remains limited. The present pilot study investigatedthe influence of Pranic Healing, a non-contact energy-based practice derived from the concept of Prana, on selectedphysicochemical properties of distilled water under controlled laboratory conditions. A three-arm, assessor-blinded, randomised pilot experimental design was employed. Three experienced male Pranic Healing practitionersconducted the healing. Distilled water samples were allocated to intervention and control groups. Electrical conductivity (EC), pH, and oxidation–reduction potential (ORP) were measured before and after the interventionusing calibrated analytical instruments. Practitioner psychophysiological characteristics were documented usingtheFlow State Scale (FSS), Triguna, and Tridosha assessments. Results showed reproducible increases in electrical conductivity across all samples, with comparatively greater changes observed in healer-treated samples, particularlyon the second experimental day, where the maximum increase reached 69.62%. pH remained within near-neutral limits with minor fluctuations, while ORP showed inconsistent variability. Practitioners demonstrated highflowstate scores (4.42–4.69/5) and predominance of Sattva characteristics. These preliminary findings suggest measurable physicochemical variations in water under Prana-based intervention conditions, with electrical conductivity showing the changes. The study provides an exploratory framework for scientifically evaluating IndianKnowledge Systems using contemporary analytical methods and supports future interdisciplinary researchoncomplementary health practices. The study aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal(SDG)-3: Good Health and Well-being by advancing evidence-based complementary health research.
