Abstract

This study explores the usefulness of CuO nanoparticles as a co-catalyst in the synthesis of neem(Azadirachtaindica) seed oil-based alkyd resin (NSOAR). CuO nanoparticles were synthesised by the sol-gel method. Adual catalytic system of PbO and CuO nanoparticles was used for catalyse the reaction. Acid value was determinedover time, which indicated that the rate of reaction was enhanced substantially due to the presence of CuOnanoparticles. The synthesised alkyd resin was characterised by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermal analysis, andgel permeation chromatography. This study was aimed to explore a modified catalytic route in the production of neemseed oil-based alkyd resin. The dual catalytic system enhanced the reaction kinetics, improved the degree of polymerisation, and improved the physicochemical properties of the alkyd resin. The presented study is closelyconnected to the SDG-9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.
